Lighting

Lighting:


  • Lighting is a key aspect when filming. It can create an an impression without doing any editing. 
  • 'Golden Hour' is a good time to film as the sun is setting and natural light is at it's best.
  • Lighting can set the mood and help the viewer feel a certain way towards the advert. (might make the advert more popular).


Types of lighting:
  • Three-point fill lighting
    • creates shadow and looks natural.
  • Chiaroscuro lighting
    • harsh lighting, creates shadows and atmosphere.
    • horror films.
  • High key lighting
    • on the newer camera's, there is a setting for this.
    • makes the scene look clean 
  • Low key lighting
    • creates atmosphere and contrast.
    • used in horrors, thrillers and romantic imagery.
  • Back-lighting
    • where the scene is lit directly from behind.
    • normally uses natural light.
  • Natural lighting
    • natural light coming from the sun or a light source.
    • used in combination with other lighting.
  • Artificial lighting
    • comes from man made light sources.
    • used in combination with other lighting.
